a WORD FROM BLOK...

"Fruit, Cigars, and Cigarettes"

RAPPER FIGHTS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE WITH

WORDS AND ACTIONS

JUNE 16, 2017 (Chicago, Illinois) – Hearing the term “Black Lives Matter,” in today’s climate evokes several emotions…Likewise will the new single by Cell Blok entitled,  “Fruit, Cigars, and Cigarettes.” This song dissects the inhumanity of police brutality while instilling confidence and placing value on the soul of black America.  Cell Blok takes the listener on a trip through Black history while addressing tensions that date back to slavery.  Blok is not your average Chi-town drill rapper, his lifestyle is the contrary.  “Rap is more than therapy, it’s ministry.  And I use it as an instrument to spread God’s word,” states Cell Blok.

“Fruit, Cigars, and Cigarettes” is a gritty, yet melodic tune that echoes the sentiments of the black community.  Lyrics like, “We hunted down like game/you think it’s a game/too many people getting slain/we living in pain… and when we riot it’s ignited/our cities in flames” show the frustration and sometimes contradictions of the black man.  What we need is a solution.  Cell Blok not only raps, but lives the example that for all lives to matter, yes, black lives must also matter.
